The Importance of Workplace Culture

Most of us have heard it before – workplace culture can make or break a business.

But is there any truth to this?

First of all, let’s get a better understanding of the term ‘workplace culture’. It’s essentially the character and personality of a business. It consists of company values and beliefs as well as physical environment, communication, interactions, dress code and of course, employees.

Company culture can’t be invented or created. Just like a good wine, you need to give it time to develop.

So let’s find out if it’s really the key to a successful business.

Workplace culture strengthens and defines your business’ branding. That’s because your values and how you communicate align your employees’ actions and the way they handle different situations. Your culture is unavoidably going to shine through when dealing with customers. It’s up to you to use this to your advantage! If your business culture is a good one, your customers will appreciate it.

Great culture also equals great employees. Happy employees are more likely to stick it out with your business. Hiring and training new employees is costly so investing in your employees’ happiness definitely pays off. Employees that love their job will also work hard to make your business a success because they genuinely care.

At Zwift, we believe in having fun at work. From passionate table tennis battles to greatly feared roosie nominations* - we’re always open for a bit of silliness in the workplace.

When it comes to communication, be it between staff or with clients, we like to keep it straightforward. Making sure to explain and communicate effectively by leaving out the formal talk is key to avoid misunderstandings.

We believe there’s no need to complicate.

“Simplifying things was what initially inspired creating Zwift. Owning a hospitality business can be extremely chaotic. Zwift takes care of everything online so that owners and staff can focus on what they do best. It’s the tool required to break free of the struggle. Chaos and stress are poisonous for good workplace culture. Zwift allows businesses to be busy and free at the same time.” - wise words from Zwift's founder.
